Hoax Bomb Threat Advisory

On Friday, May 26th, several threatening anonymous printouts, identified by LAPD and the FBI as part of an apparent nationwide hoax by hackers, were found on printers and fax machines across USC’s University Park and Health Sciences campuses.  DPS immediately reported the threats to LAPD who in turn notified the FBI.  DPS continues to work with the LAPD on this matter.

The FBI reports that these printouts have appeared across the country.  The anonymous threats are unfounded and appear to originate from outside of the United States.

If you encounter a threatening printout at USC, please immediately contact DPS at (213) 740-6000; or at HSC at (323) 442-1200.  If you have a network attached printer or fax machine, please contact your local IT support or Information Technology Services to ensure your machines are secure.

If you are in immediate danger, call the LAPD at 9-1-1 or DPS at (213) 740-4321.


This message is intended to inform the campus community regarding an incident which occurred in USC’s Patrol and Response area and to provide information enabling community members to make informed decisions about their personal safety.

If you are the victim of or witness to a crime, please report it immediately to DPS-UPC emergency line at (213) 740-4321 or for DPS-HSC emergency (323) 442-1000.  Provide the location where the incident occurred and a description of the perpetrator(s) to the best of your ability. You may also report the crime to the LAPD Southwest Division at (213) 485-6571.
