Grand Theft – Suspects in Custody

Incident description: While inside the John McKay Center, a student placed her purse which contained her cell phone, on a bench and walked away. A short time later, she discovered her cell phone was missing. CCTV operators observed six male suspects in the immediate area and notified Department of Public Safety Officers (DPS) officers.

Incident resolution: DPS officers observed the six suspects, who matched the description from the CCTV operators, walking in front of the John McKay Center and detained them.

Time & date of incident: 7:45 p.m. on April 27, 2021

Location: On campus at the John McKay Center

DPS officers contacted Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers and all six suspects were identified as involved with other robberies in the area. DPS officers determined that one of the suspects was in possession of the student’s cell phone, which was then positively identified by the student. The stolen cell phone was returned to the student.

The suspects were arrested and transported to the LAPD for booking on grand theft and robbery charges.
