Burglary-Suspect in Custody

Incident description:  The suspect entered the victim’s house through the back door. The suspect then entered the victim’s room, removed the victim’s property and fled in an unknown direction.

The victim’s roommate was in a separate room when she heard someone inside the house. She left her room to investigate when she heard the rear door slam and saw someone through the window run from the location.

Time & date of incident: 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2021

Location: Off campus in the 1200 block of W. 30th Street

Incident resolution:  On Aug. 23, 2021, at approximately 12 noon, a student reported seeing a suspect in their neighbor’s yard stealing property. Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded to the location and observed the suspect fleeing on a bicycle. After a short pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody by DPS.

Follow-up investigation by DPS detectives and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) investigators led to the discovery of evidence implicating the suspect in multiple campus community burglaries. The suspect remains in the custody of the LAPD after being booked on multiple charges.
